Buying food, detergent or other items in bulk can dramatically reduce packaging.

Buying food or other items in bulk can drastically reduce the use of packaging.

Many food products can be purchased in bulk without any packaging. Other products such as detergent can also be purchased without packaging. Bulk can also refer to very large sizes, or many items packaged together. Larger sized packages tend to reduce the packaging to quantity ratio, while buying items packaged together instead of individually packaged items also reduces packaging.

For example, buying many rolls of paper towels packaged together uses a lot less packaging than individually packaged paper towels.

To reduce waste even more, you can bring reusable containers to put bulk items in. Some stores that sell bulk food will estimate the weight of the container and deduct it from the price calculation. Also store your bulk foods and detergents in reusable containers.

As an added bonus, buying bulk can save you a lot of money.
